Despite lucrative offers from other programs, Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate has reaffirmed his commitment to the Buckeyes.

In an interview with 10TV’s Adam King on February 24, 2025, Tate addressed the transfer rumors that emerged following Ohio State’s national championship victory over Notre Dame. He stated, “The plan was never for me to leave. I don’t know where that came from, where that started. I bleed Ohio State.”

Reports suggested that Tate received offers exceeding $1 million to enter the transfer portal and become a No. 1 receiver elsewhere. However, Tate’s loyalty to Ohio State remained steadfast. During the 2024 season, he recorded 52 receptions for 733 yards and four touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the top No. 3 wide receivers in college football. With the departure of Emeka Egbuka to the NFL, Tate is poised to take on a more prominent role alongside sophomore standout Jeremiah Smith in the upcoming season.

Tate also expressed enthusiasm about Brian Hartline’s promotion to offensive coordinator following Chip Kelly’s move to the NFL. “I’m excited for my guy. I see the work day-in and day-out, everything he’s put into the program. So I’m excited for him to finally take the keys,” Tate remarked. Hartline, previously the wide receivers coach, has been instrumental in developing Ohio State’s receiving corps, and his new role is expected to further enhance the team’s offensive performance.

Ohio State is set to begin spring practice on March 17, 2025, as they prepare to defend their national title. With Tate’s unwavering dedication and the anticipated synergy between him and Smith, the Buckeyes’ receiving unit is well-positioned for continued success in the upcoming season.
