Ohio State head coach Ryan Day had high praise for cornerbacks coach Tim Walton, emphasizing his growing role in the Buckeyes’ defensive strategy.
Speaking about Walton’s contributions, Day stated that he is “gonna be a huge part” of Ohio State’s defensive game planning in 2024. Walton, who has been with the program since 2022, played a crucial role in developing the Buckeyes’ secondary last season, helping turn them into one of the nation’s top pass defenses. With new co-defensive coordinator Matt Guerrieri joining the staff and Jim Knowles still leading the unit, Walton’s expertise will be key in refining Ohio State’s coverage schemes.
On the offensive side, running back TreVeyon Henderson continues to draw lofty comparisons. One of the most intriguing came from ESPN’s Bill Connelly, who likened Henderson’s skill set and potential to former NFL star Curtis Martin. Known for his balance of speed, vision, and durability, Martin was one of the league’s most consistent backs during his Hall of Fame career. Henderson, when fully healthy, has shown flashes of similar explosiveness and versatility, making him a dynamic weapon in Ohio State’s backfield. After battling injuries in 2022, he bounced back in 2023, showcasing the ability to be a game-changing presence. If he stays healthy and builds on last season’s success, Henderson could solidify himself as one of college football’s elite running backs and improve his stock for the 2025 NFL Draft.
With Walton playing a bigger role on defense and Henderson drawing comparisons to an all-time great, Ohio State’s outlook for the upcoming season remains promising as they aim to reclaim a Big Ten title and contend for a national championship.
