GOOD NEWS: John Stones is set to commit his future to Man City

Man City are looking to make significant improvements to the squad during the summer transfer window in a bid to get back to competing at the top of the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s team have given up their crown as the Premier League champions without much of a fight this season, with the club currently sitting fourth in the table as they are in the midst of a fight to secure Champions League football.

Football Insider revealed that City are eyeing deals for AC Milan and Juventus stars Theo Hernandez and Andrea Cambiaso in the summer to bolster their defensive options.

Only three teams in the top half of the Premier League have conceded more goals than City this season, with this being an area that Guardiola wants to address immediately.

Another reason why City might need more defenders is due to the unclear future of John Stones as he is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium in 2026.

City will need to make a decision about whether they want to cash in on him this summer or risk him leaving for free the following year.

, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has revealed he thinks Stones will extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium as the club “need somebody” like him.

“We [will] see him sign another deal,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“I think he signs another extension, a year’s extension.

“You look at those young players that will be slotted into that back four.

“They need somebody like John Stones around, they need a leader, they need somebody who’s like a captain, voice.

“The biggest thing is a leader and a voice in that back four.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him sign in another year and then we’re having this conversation maybe at the end of next season, so basically another year secures the club that some kind of financial reward for him at the end of next season.

“It doesn’t allow him to go on a free and actually they get him for another year where, when he’s fit, he’s still one of the best centre-backs in England as we’ve seen you know for the national team and for Manchester City.”

Man City’s John Stones decision is up in the air

Robinson might believe that it’s in City’s best interest to retain Stones for another season, but that doesn’t guarantee that it will happen.

Industry insider Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that City are prepared to accept an offer for the England international due to ongoing concerns about his injury record.

  1. Stones has missed 28 games for the club this season due to various injuries, and that lack of consistency is becoming an issue for Guardiola’s planning and preparation.
