Breaking news: J.T. Barrett is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Ohio State history, yet his name might not always be the first that comes to mind when discussing the program’s elite passers.

However, his statistical dominance is undeniable. Barrett holds the Buckeyes’ all-time passing record with 9,434 yards and also leads in career touchdown passes with 104. His ability to lead the offense efficiently made him one of the most productive quarterbacks in Big Ten history.

Although Barrett’s individual accolades are impressive, his impact on Ohio State’s success during his tenure was even more significant. As a redshirt freshman in 2014, he stepped in after an early-season injury to Braxton Miller and guided the Buckeyes to an 11-1 record before suffering his own injury in the regular-season finale against Michigan. Though he was unable to play in the postseason, his leadership and performance helped set the stage for Ohio State’s eventual national championship under backup Cardale Jones.

Barrett continued to be a force in the Big Ten, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors three times. His dual-threat ability made him a nightmare for opposing defenses, as he rushed for 3,263 yards and 43 touchdowns in addition to his passing numbers. While he didn’t have a long NFL career, his legacy at Ohio State is cemented as one of the greatest quarterbacks in program history. His records and contributions to Buckeye football ensure that he will always be remembered among the school’s all-time greats.
