Breaking: Ohio State has secured a significant commitment from four-star wide receiver Phillip Bell, a standout from Mission Viejo High School in California.

Bell, standing 6-foot and weighing 200 pounds, is ranked as the No. 179 overall prospect and the No. 20 wide receiver in the 2025 class by the On3 Industry Rankings.

Bell’s commitment is a notable victory for the Buckeyes, as he chose Ohio State over other powerhouse programs, including Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, USC, and Washington. His decision underscores the strong recruiting efforts of Ohio State’s coaching staff, particularly wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.

Bell’s relationship with Ohio State began during his first visit to Columbus in the spring of 2023, where he received an offer that immediately elevated the Buckeyes on his list of potential schools. He returned for multiple visits, including an official visit in June 2024, which solidified his interest. Bell cited the program’s consistent development of top-tier wide receivers and the opportunity to work with Coach Hartline as pivotal factors in his decision.

During his junior year at Mission Viejo, Bell recorded 56 receptions for 644 yards and seven touchdowns, contributing significantly to his team’s state Division 1-AA championship. His performance on the field showcases his precise route-running and reliable hands, attributes that align well with Ohio State’s offensive strategies.

Bell’s commitment bolsters Ohio State’s already impressive 2025 recruiting class, which includes other top talents such as five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair and fellow wide receivers Quincy Porter, De’zie Jones, and Bodpegn Miller. This class is currently ranked first nationally, reflecting the program’s ongoing success in attracting elite talent.

Looking ahead, Bell plans to graduate from Mission Viejo in December and enroll at Ohio State in January, allowing him to participate in spring practices and begin acclimating to the collegiate level. His early enrollment demonstrates his commitment to contributing to the Buckeyes’ success in the upcoming seasons.

In summary, Phillip Bell’s commitment to Ohio State represents a strategic addition to the Buckeyes’ offense, promising to enhance their receiving corps with his skill set and dedication. His decision to join Ohio State over other top programs highlights the university’s strong appeal and its coaching staff’s ability to develop NFL-caliber talent.
