AALIYA CHAVEZ: Have made her choice: Tennessee Lady Volunteers have secured a commitment from Aaliyah Chavez, the nation’s top prospect in the 2025 recruiting class.

Chavez, a 5’11” point guard from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, is renowned for her scoring prowess, court vision, and leadership qualities. Her decision to join Tennessee is a significant victory for head coach Kim Caldwell and the program.

Chavez’s high school career has been nothing short of remarkable. She amassed 4,796 career points, ranking her 14th all-time in career scoring. Her accolades include being named a 2025 McDonald’s All-American and representing the United States at the 2025 Nike Hoop Summit.

Her commitment to Tennessee over other powerhouse programs such as South Carolina, LSU, UConn, and Texas underscores the Lady Vols’ resurgence under Coach Caldwell. Chavez cited the program’s rich tradition, passionate fanbase, and Caldwell’s up-tempo system as pivotal factors in her decision.

With Chavez’s arrival, Tennessee’s roster is poised for a significant boost. Her elite scoring ability and playmaking skills are expected to make an immediate impact, positioning the Lady Vols as strong contenders in the upcoming seasons. This commitment not only elevates Tennessee’s status but also signals a potential shift in the balance of power in women’s college basketball.

As the Lady Vols integrate Chavez into their lineup, they may well become the team to beat, aiming to reclaim their historic dominance in the

sport.
