BREAKING NEWS: Tennessee Volunteers’ Zakai Zeigler Invests $3.3 Million to Turn Home Into Shelter for Homeless Youth in Knoxville.

In a heartwarming and unprecedented move, Tennessee Volunteers basketball standout Zakai Zeigler is making headlines for something far greater than his on-court achievements. The rising star has committed $3.3 million of his personal earnings to transform a historic Knoxville property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.

Zeigler, who has become a fan favorite for his grit, leadership, and resilience, announced the initiative in a press conference earlier today. “This is bigger than basketball,” he said. “I’ve been blessed with a platform, and it’s my responsibility to use it for something meaningful. These kids deserve a chance.”

The shelter, which is expected to open in early 2026, will offer housing, meals, mental health support, and educational resources for youth ages 13 to 21. Zeigler, 22, was inspired by his own experiences with adversity and by the community that embraced him during his time in Knoxville.

The facility will be named “Zakai’s Place” and will partner with local nonprofits and the University of Tennessee’s social work and education departments to provide mentorship and career training. Plans also include a basketball court and recreational center to promote physical and mental wellness.

University of Tennessee officials praised Zeigler’s commitment, calling him a “true Volunteer in every sense of the word.”

Fans and fellow athletes flooded social media with support and admiration, many noting that Zeigler continues to lead with character and heart.

“This is just the beginning,” Zeigler added. “If one kid finds hope, it’s all worth it.”

Zakai Zeigler’s bold investment is a shining example of the power of sports to uplift lives and build community far beyond the game.
