Seimone Augustus Returns to LSU as Director of Player Development
BATON ROUGE, La. – In a move that resonates deeply with LSU Tigers fans and the women’s basketball world, the LSU Tigers women’s basketball program has announced the appointment of Seimone Augustus as their new Director of Player Development.
Augustus, a Baton Rouge native and one of the most iconic figures in women’s basketball, returns home to a program where she first made her mark as a collegiate star. During her time at LSU from 2002 to 2006, Augustus was a two-time Wooden Award winner, a three-time All-American, and led the Tigers to three consecutive Final Four appearances. Her impact extended far beyond the court, becoming a symbol of excellence and leadership.
Now, Augustus brings her wealth of experience back to the program—this time in a mentoring and developmental role. As Director of Player Development, she will work closely with the athletes, focusing on personal growth, leadership, professionalism, and preparation for life beyond basketball. With her WNBA legacy, Olympic gold medals, and international success, Augustus provides an unmatched example for aspiring student-athletes.
“This is home,” Augustus said in a statement. “To be back at LSU, where everything started for me, and to be part of helping shape the next generation—it means everything.”
The hire is a massive win for Head Coach Kim Mulkey and the entire LSU community. Augustus not only brings credibility and inspiration but also bridges the past with the present in a way that few can.
With the Tigers continuing to chase national prominence, having a legend like Augustus guiding the program from within adds another layer of strength to LSU’s foundation. Her return isn’t just symbolic—it’s strategic, powerful, and filled with promise.
