BREAKING NEWS: LSU Names Seimone Augustus Director of Player Development.

In a move that resonates deeply with fans and the broader women’s basketball community, the LSU Tigers women’s basketball program has officially named Seimone Augustus as their new Director of Player Development. The announcement marks a celebrated homecoming for one of the most iconic figures in LSU sports history.

Augustus, a Baton Rouge native and LSU legend, is widely regarded as one of the greatest women’s basketball players of all time. During her collegiate career from 2002 to 2006, she led the Tigers to three consecutive Final Four appearances and earned back-to-back National Player of the Year honors. Her jersey, retired by LSU in 2010, hangs in the rafters of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center as a testament to her legacy.

This new role will allow Augustus to work closely with current LSU players, focusing on their personal, academic, and professional development both on and off the court. Her experience in the WNBA—where she won four championships with the Minnesota Lynx and was an eight-time All-Star—offers invaluable insight to young athletes navigating their own journeys.

LSU head coach Kim Mulkey praised the hire, stating, “Seimone brings championship pedigree, leadership, and a deep love for LSU. She understands what it means to wear purple and gold.”

The hire is not only a strategic addition for the program’s future but also a symbolic one. Augustus’s return underscores LSU’s commitment to honoring its past while investing in the next generation of talent. Fans and alumni alike are celebrating the news as a powerful step forward for the Tigers.

With Seimone Augustus back in Baton Rouge, LSU women’s basketball continues to build a legacy that bridges greatness across generations.
