‘We cannot move forward without him’ Ruben Amorim acknowledged Victor Osimhen transfer to Manchester United
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that it is “impossible” to win matches with underperforming forwards, following his team’s 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
Despite dominating possession at Old Trafford, United squandered numerous chances, and a late free-kick from Pablo Sarabia sealed their 15th Premier League loss of the season.
Currently sitting in 14th place in the Premier League, United are now focusing on the Europa League. However, their poor campaign, which has seen them struggle under both Erik ten Hag and Amorim, is expected to result in their worst-ever league finish.
Rasmus Højlund, who once again failed to score, has now netted just once in his last 28 appearances for the club. This ongoing goal-scoring struggle has sparked rumors about his potential departure in the summer.
Regarding Manchester United’s pursuit of a new striker, which has included links to Victor Osimhen, Liam Delap, and Hugo Ekitike for the summer transfer window, Amorim was cautious but confirmed that the club is planning for the future.
When asked about the striker search, Amorim responded: “We will address that in the end. Of course, we have a plan and we talk about that every day, but the season is not over, so let’s focus on that.”
He emphasized that improving as a team is essential, noting, “It’s a team thing. We need to improve as a team because if you don’t score goals in this league, it’s impossible to win games.”
Manchester United are ramping up efforts to sign Victor Osimhen in a £40 million summer transfer, as head coach Ruben Amorim prioritizes the prolific striker in his rebuilding plans as reported by The Mirror.
Currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, Osimhen has caught the attention of United after a standout season that saw him net 29 goals in 34 appearances.
United’s struggles in front of goal have been evident throughout the campaign, and Amorim believes Osimhen could be the ideal solution to those issues.
The 26-year-old Nigerian forward, entering the final year of his contract with Napoli, presents a strategic opportunity for United to secure a marquee signing at a reduced fee, due to the Italian club’s need to cash in.
Osimhen’s profile aligns with the vision of United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who aims to build a younger, high-potential squad.
While the club has also shown interest in Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, Amorim reportedly prefers Osimhen, valuing his European experience and proven goal-scoring record.
The striker’s past achievements include helping Napoli win the Serie A title in 2022–23, ending the club’s 33-year wait for a league championship.
His ability to perform on the biggest stages makes him a standout option to lead United’s front line, especially with Rasmus Hojlund’s form underwhelming and Joshua Zirkzee sidelined.
Amorim revealed the importance of smart recruitment in reshaping the squad, stating, “We need to be really good in recruitment… the players have to be perfect for their positions.”
United are also expected to raise funds through player sales, with high-profile exits likely as Amorim reshapes the team ahead of next season.
