BREAKING NEWS – A.J. McCarron Returns to Alabama Football in New Role.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished signal-callers in program history, is returning to Tuscaloosa in a new role. The University of Alabama announced Monday that McCarron has been appointed as a Player Development Assistant for the Crimson Tide football program.

McCarron, who led Alabama to back-to-back national championships in 2011 and 2012, is expected to work closely with current players to guide their development both on and off the field. The role includes mentoring quarterbacks, assisting with film study, and helping players adjust to the rigors of collegiate football and life beyond the game.

“It’s an honor to come back home,” McCarron said in a statement released by the university. “Alabama gave me everything — the education, the opportunity, and the platform to succeed at the highest level. Now it’s time for me to give back to the program and help these young men grow.”

Head coach Kalen DeBoer praised the move, noting McCarron’s leadership experience and championship pedigree. “A.J. brings a wealth of knowledge and passion that’s invaluable to our locker room,” DeBoer said. “His presence will make a difference, especially for our quarterbacks.”

McCarron’s return comes as Alabama looks to maintain its tradition of excellence under a new coaching regime. Following a brief NFL career and a stint in the XFL, McCarron has increasingly turned his attention toward mentoring and coaching, recently working with high school quarterbacks in the Southeast.

The Mobile native threw for over 9,000 yards and 77 touchdowns during his time in Tuscaloosa and still holds several school records. His calm demeanor, football IQ, and championship mindset have made him a beloved figure among Crimson Tide fans and alumni.

“I’ve always wanted to coach,” McCarron added. “To be able to do it here, at the place that shaped who I am, is beyond special.”

McCarron is expected to begin his new role immediately, joining the team for spring workouts and offseason preparations.
