AUBURN, Ala. — Sophomore guard Tahaad Pettiford has formally announced his return to the Auburn Tigers for the 2025–2026 college basketball season, providing a major boost to Bruce Pearl’s squad as they aim for another deep postseason run.

Pettiford, a dynamic playmaker known for his lightning-quick first step and ability to create offense both on and off the ball, emerged as a key contributor during the 2024–2025 campaign. He averaged 11.4 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game while starting in most of Auburn’s SEC matchups. His growth in late-season play, including clutch performances during the conference tournament, drew praise from scouts and analysts alike. However, Pettiford ultimately chose to put the NBA on hold for another year, opting to further develop his game under Pearl’s tutelage.

“I love this program, my teammates, and what we’re building here,” Pettiford said in a statement. “We have unfinished business, and I’m coming back to win.”

His announcement comes just days after Auburn secured the return of another frontcourt cornerstone, 6-foot-10 forward Johni Broome, who elected to use his final year of eligibility. With Broome anchoring the paint and Pettiford running the offense, Auburn retains a formidable core capable of challenging for an SEC title and more.

Bruce Pearl expressed excitement about the news, emphasizing Pettiford’s leadership and potential. “Tahaad is the kind of player who makes everyone around him better. His decision to come back speaks volumes about his commitment to the team.”

With Pettiford’s return now official, expectations are sky-high on The Plains as Auburn reloads for what could be a memorable 2025–2026 season.
