David de Gea has been back in Manchester this week – but it appears certain he will not be returning to Man United.
The 32-year-old left the Old Trafford outfit over the summer following the expiration of his contract, subsequently being replaced by United manager Erik ten Hag with £43.8m man Andre Onana. However, the Cameroonian has struggled since stepping in between the sticks for United having made some high-profile errors.

Ten Hag has so far stuck behind his new first-choice ‘keeper, but De Gea’s return to Manchester got fans excited about a potential return. The Spaniard has been linked with a return to his homeland, with reports also suggesting he could follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia, but a move is yet to materialise.

De Gea first set United fans into a frenzy by revealing he was back in the city on Tuesday. The Spaniard shared a photo of himself at a padel court on his Instagram page, adding Manchester as his location on the story.
Fans became excited at the prospect of a potential return to United, before The Daily Mail reported De Gea had actually returned to the city after spending the summer in Madrid in order to spend a ‘few days sorting out the house in Hale’ where he lived for the past 12 years.
Later on the same day, De Gea was spotted in the stands watching Manchester United Women play their first-ever Champions League tie as they faced Paris Saint-Germain at Leigh Sports Village. The goalkeeper was clearly excited to be there, sharing a clip on his Instagram stories with the message: “Let’s go!”
