Kevin De Bruyne is leaving Manchester City at the end of the season.

Outgoing Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has reportedly been linked with a shock move.

Back in April, it was confirmed that the Belgian would leave City at the end of the season.

De Bruyne said in an emotional statement: “Dear Manchester, Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading. So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player.

“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here- and you deserve to hear it from me first.”

He continued: “Dear Manchester, Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading. So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player.

“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here- and you deserve to hear it from me first.”

“Football led me to all of you – and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club.

“These people gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back. And guess what – we won everything. Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye.”

Ever since the news was made public, De Bruyne has been linked with a host of different teams, including clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States and in Europe.

Now, it has been claimed that newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool have made a shock bid to sign the 33-year-old.

As reported by Italian news outlet Di Marzio, De Bruyne has a proposal from Liverpool and would like to remain in European football.

It has been suggested that Serie A side Napoli are also interested in signing the midfielder.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, De Bruyne has played 418 games scoring 108 goals and assisting 177.

Kevin De Bruyne, one of the most influential midfielders in Premier League history, is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the 2024/25 season, concluding a decade-long tenure that has redefined the club’s modern era.

A Decade of Brilliance

Since joining City in 2015 from Wolfsburg, De Bruyne has been the heartbeat of Pep Guardiola’s side. His vision, passing range, and leadership have been instrumental in City’s dominance, contributing to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five Carabao Cups, and the club’s first-ever Champions League triumph in 2023. With over 100 assists and numerous individual accolades, including multiple PFA Player of the Year awards, De Bruyne’s legacy at City is firmly cemented.

The Decision to Depart

De Bruyne’s contract with Manchester City expires on June 30, 2025. Despite his desire to remain with the club for another year, City opted not to extend his contract, making him a free agent this summer. This decision has opened the door for several clubs to express interest in the Belgian maestro.

Potential Destinations

Napoli

Napoli has shown interest in signing De Bruyne upon the expiration of his contract. The Italian club, currently leading Serie A and guaranteed a Champions League spot next season, has contacted De Bruyne’s representatives. A move to Napoli would reunite him with fellow Belgian Romelu Lukaku and coach Antonio Conte.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain has also entered the race for De Bruyne, aiming to entice him with a competitive proposal within European football. The French club offers him an annual salary of €35 million, along with a generous signing bonus. With the opportunity to continue competing at the top level of European football and challenging for the Champions League, PSG’s option is an attractive alternative for the midfielder.

Saudi Pro League

Clubs from the Saudi Pro League have made lucrative offers to De Bruyne, potentially offering a salary increase over his current £400,000-per-week deal. While the financial incentives are significant, it’s unclear whether De Bruyne is inclined to move to the Middle East at this stage of his career.

Major League Soccer

MLS clubs, including Chicago Fire and San Diego FC, have expressed interest in De Bruyne. Chicago Fire holds his discovery rights and has a designated player slot available, although convincing him to join may be challenging. San Diego FC is reportedly making big plans ahead of the summer and sees De Bruyne as a potential marquee signing.

Guardiola and Teammates React

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged De Bruyne’s impending departure, stating that the midfielder has to decide what he feels and what he can do in the next period of his life. Guardiola emphasized the importance of De Bruyne being honest with himself about his future.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank also reacted to the news, describing De Bruyne as one of the best midfielders the Premier League has seen. Frank praised De Bruyne’s contributions to Manchester City’s success and acknowledged the impact of his departure on the league.

The Final Chapter

As the season concludes, De Bruyne remains focused on helping Manchester City finish strongly. The team is set to face Southampton in their final Premier League match before the FA Cup final. De Bruyne has found form recently, scoring twice in his last four matches, and aims to contribute to City’s pursuit of a potential runner-up finish behind Arsenal.

Legacy and Farewell

Kevin De Bruyne’s departure marks the end of an era for Manchester City. His contributions have been pivotal in the club’s rise to prominence both domestically and in Europe. As he embarks on the next chapter of his career, De Bruyne leaves behind a legacy of excellence, professionalism, and unforgettable moments that will be cherished by City fans for years to come.
