The LSU Tigers have ascended to the No. 1 spot in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll for college baseball, marking their first time atop the rankings in the 2025 season.

This rise comes after a pivotal series victory over then-No. 3 Arkansas, propelling LSU from fourth to first in the latest poll released on May 12, 2025.

Under the leadership of head coach Jay Johnson, the Tigers boast a 40–12 record and secured 19 first-place votes in the poll. Their recent performance includes a series win against Arkansas, which was instrumental in their climb to the top.

LSU’s pitching staff has been a cornerstone of their success, with standout performances from starters like Kade Anderson, who leads the team with a 2.08 ERA and 37 strikeouts. Reliever Gavin Guidry has also been a key contributor, expected to return from a lower back injury.

Offensively, first baseman Jared Jones has been a powerhouse, leading the team with a .429 batting average, six home runs, and 26 RBIs. Second baseman Daniel Dickinson has also been a consistent performer, earning second-team all-conference honors.

This achievement marks LSU as the sixth team this season to hold the No. 1 ranking, joining Texas A&M, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and Georgia—all from the Southeastern Conference (SEC). As the regular season concludes, the Tigers aim to maintain their momentum heading into the postseason, with aspirations of securing their eighth national championship.
