BREAKING NEWS: Arsenal have outmaneuvered Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United to secure the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon.
The Gunners have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the prolific forward, who is set to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Gyökeres, 26, has been in sensational form since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, netting an astonishing 95 goals in 99 appearances. His remarkable tally of 52 goals and 15 assists this season alone has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers. Despite interest from Manchester United—where former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim now resides—and Chelsea, Arsenal have moved swiftly to finalize the deal.
The transfer fee is believed to be around £60 million, significantly below Gyökeres’s £85 million release clause. Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, played a pivotal role in negotiations, offering Gyökeres a lucrative contract exceeding £200,000 per week.
While the club has yet to announce Gyökeres’s squad number officially, speculation suggests he may inherit the iconic No. 9 jersey. His first training session with the Gunners is anticipated shortly after the summer transfer window opens, as Arsenal aim to integrate him swiftly into Mikel Arteta’s plans.
This acquisition marks a significant statement of intent from Arsenal, addressing their need for a clinical striker and signaling their ambition to challenge for major honors in the upcoming season.
