Arsenal are actively pursuing a deal to sign Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, widely regarded as one of the best young wingers in world football.
The 22-year-old Spanish international has reportedly decided to join the Gunners this summer, with Arsenal prepared to trigger his €58 million (£48m) release clause, surprising other suitors like Barcelona.
Williams has been in exceptional form, contributing eight goals and 19 assists in all competitions during the 2023/24 season. His standout performances include a Man of the Match display in Athletic Bilbao’s Copa del Rey final victory and a pivotal role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, where he scored in the final against England.
Mikel Arteta has long admired Williams, viewing him as a key addition to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options. The club’s director, Josh Kroenke, has confirmed plans for significant investment in the squad this summer, aiming to strengthen their title challenge. Williams’ arrival would provide much-needed depth and competition on the wings, complementing Bukayo Saka and addressing the team’s reliance on their current wide players.
With Williams’ decision to join and Arsenal’s readiness to meet his release clause, the transfer appears imminent. His addition would not only enhance the squad’s quality but also signal Arsenal’s intent to compete at the highest level in the upcoming season.
