Manchester United have once again hired Sir Alex Ferguson as the legendary manager is now officially back working at the club.

Despite leaving United in 2013, Ferguson continues to remain close to the club and is regularly seen attending matches as a fan. But according to the Daily Mail, Ferguson has now taken on a formal role, alongside club legend Bryan Robson.

With CEO Richard Arnold desperate to get United back to their best, he’s assembled an experienced team involving Robson and Ferguson to help push the club in the right direction. Ferguson was seen driving into Carrington on Tuesday, and it’s thought that it was to carry out the first of many meetings.

Ferguson’s first meeting was held along with crunch talks between the club and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the star still yet to return to action. However, the 37-year-old has since commented “Sunday, the king plays” as United prepare to take on Rayo Vallecano in a friendly.

United produced their worst ever Premier League finish last season, in a shocking campaign that saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked, and interim boss Ralf Rangnick even rejected a consultancy role at the end of his temporary stint. Ferguson and former CEO David Gill have remained on United’s football board as non-executive directors since leaving their jobs in 2013, but will now take on official roles.

Although it’s important to move on, and United have certainly done that in many ways this summer, Arnold feels as though it’s important to keep iconic figures around the club. But change has been plentiful as Erik ten Hag has been eager to move things on.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s feelings on sacking Erik ten Hag emerge following showdown Man Utd talks

Former Manchester United manager and club legend Sir Alex Ferguson is still in the corner of Erik ten Hag – even though the Dutchman has overseen a nightmare start to the season

Erik ten Hag still has the full backing of Sir Alex Ferguson despite overseeing Manchester United’s worst start to a season in 61 years.

The Dutchman, 53, enjoyed a fine maiden year at the helm but has found himself under pressure in recent weeks after a calamitous start to the 2023/24 campaign, with United losing five of their opening 11 Premier League matches.

And while Ten Hag earned some respite at the weekend with a slender 1-0 win over Fulham, his position is likely to be scrutinised further in the coming weeks unless United can string a positive run of results together. He can take some solace, though, in the fact that in Ferguson, he retains the support of an Old Trafford legend.

Marcel Sabitzer snubs Bruno Fernandes as he reveals Man Utd’s three dressing room leaders

According to a new report from The Sun, not only is Ferguson still ‘100 per cent’ behind the former Ajax chief, but he would also urge any incoming investors to get behind Ten Hag rather than dispense with his services.

That revelation comes in the wake of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid to acquire a minority 25 per cent stake of the club, with the Ineos chief likely to be granted control of sporting operations if his £1.4billion proposal is ratified at by the board in the coming weeks.

While having the support of Ferguson is seismic in itself, Ten Hag will be well aware that his position could still become untenable if he cannot oversee an upturn in both results and performances on the pitch.
