Arsenal’s pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres has intensified, with reports indicating that the Gunners are closing in on a significant summer signing.

While there is no official confirmation of Gyökeres being spotted at London Colney, multiple sources suggest that Arsenal are making substantial progress in securing the Swedish international’s services.

Gyökeres has been in sensational form, netting 53 goals in 51 appearances during the 2024/25 season, leading Sporting to their 21st league title. His prolific performance has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United. However, Arsenal appear to be leading the race, having reportedly submitted an opening bid of €75 million for the striker.

Sporting CP had initially set a release clause of €100 million for Gyökeres, but negotiations have reportedly brought the asking price down to a range of €65-70 million, plus add-ons. This adjustment has made the deal more feasible for Arsenal, who are keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.

Adding fuel to the speculation, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice recently liked an Instagram post by Gyökeres celebrating Sporting’s league triumph, a move that has not gone unnoticed by fans and media alike.

Arsenal’s proactive approach in the transfer market, under the guidance of sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta, reflects their ambition to strengthen the squad significantly. The potential acquisition of Gyökeres would address the team’s need for a prolific striker, a position that has been a point of concern in recent seasons.

While the deal is not yet finalized, the developments suggest that Arsenal are making significant strides toward securing Gyökeres’ signature. Fans will be eagerly awaiting official announcements as the summer transfer window progresses.
