Josko Gvardiol will be hoping that next season, he gets his hands on another trophy after winning the Premier League title during his debut campaign at Manchester City.

Gvardiol stood out for Manchester City last season but unfortunately for the Croatian, Pep Guardiola’s men as a whole simply underperformed.

However, with City being the elite institution they are, they will be hoping to right their wrongs in the years to come and return to the summit of domestic and European football.

Manchester City are set to rebuild their squad as several outgoings and incomings are expected.

Rayan Ait-Nouri is a player whose move to City seems imminent.

Wolves expect Ait-Nouri to join Manchester City in the summer and bid farewell to the Molineux Stadium after making a move to the Midlands in 2020.

Josko Gvardiol should be excited about the prospect of the Algerian signing for the Sky Blues as his arrival would allow the former to play consistently in his natural position as a centre-back instead of doing a job at left-back.

Ultimately, it is at centre-back where Gvardiol made his name at RB Leipzig and Croatia as one of the most prodigious youngsters in the world.

As Ait-Nouri has said “yes” to playing under Pep Guardiola, the 22-year-old is likely to play regular football as a centre-half, where he looked like the real deal during the backend of last season.

Guardiola praised Gvardiol and Dias’ partnership at the back as well and went on to admit that his City side do not necessarily require a new centre-back this summer.

Manchester City have liked Ait-Nouri for ages and perhaps the Catalan’s intention was to move Gvardiol to his favoured central defensive role in preparation for how his backline would set up next season.

Josko Gvardiol admitted his long-term future is at centre-back
Gvardiol eyes playing as a centre-back and with Manchester City aiming to sign Tino Livramento who could be paired alongside Ait-Nouri, he could very well become a permanent fixture in the role.

“So before I joined City, I thought, I thought like I’m going to be just a central defender, you know, with Ruben, with John [Stones], whoever is there. But yeah, I ended up as a fullback.”

“So I was like, maybe just a couple of months, you know, the manager wants for me to get used to the league, you know, to the rhythm and everything. But yeah, it’s actually my position. But yeah, we are still, you know, I said every time we struggle, we got so many injuries this season and every time manager wants for me to play a different position, I’m ready to go in, you know, to give my best.”

Gvardiol concluded: “So, even if you put me as a full-back, as a kind of like a wing-back, a player in the pocket, you know, I can do everything and I’m going to give my best. I’m not saying that I’m going to be the, every time he puts me, that I’m going to be the best player on the pitch. But you know what I mean? I’m just, I’m the kind of guy who’s giving like everything I can at the moment.”
