Arsenal have been pre-warned that the VAR audio from their clash with Newcastle earlier this month will be released on Tuesday by the PGMOL. That’s according to a report from the Daily Mail, which claims that referee chief Howard Webb is set to talk through the decisions.

That comes part of a new initiative setup by the governing body for the match officials, coming in the form of a show called “Match Officials Mic’d Up”. The monthly show, which has been hosted by Michael Owen alongside Webb, aims to bring more transparency over situations as tensions rise over refereeing.

Arsenal have already featured on the show last time out as Mateo Kovacic’s challenges were put under a microscope following calls for a possible red card in the victory over Manchester City. This time around, it seems as though the Gunners will be under the spotlight once more.

This time it is relation to their defeat away at Newcastle, with plenty of decisions facing scrutiny in the public domain. There were challenges by Kai Havertz and Bruno Guimaraes that could have been given as red cards, but a review by the VAR decided against reducing each team to ten players.

Then came the winning goal for the Magpies as there were three separate checks for the finish, including an assessment for whether the ball went out of play in the build-up, whether there was a foul and if there was an offside. None of the three could be proven and the goal stood.

To Mikel Arteta, the decision was less than ideal as he lashed out at the officials, saying: “It’s a disgrace, It’s embarrassing. That’s how I feel and that’s how everybody feels in that [dressing] room. You cannot imagine the amount of messages we’ve got saying this cannot continue. It’s embarrassing. I’m sorry, embarrassing.”
