‘Gone Quiet’: Fabrizio Romano Suggests Arsenal Now Won’t Complete £77m Transfer.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres appears to have hit a standstill, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing the deal has now “gone quiet.” Once considered one of Mikel Arteta’s top targets for the summer window, the £77 million-rated forward may no longer be on the cards for the Gunners.

Gyökeres had been heavily linked with a Premier League move following a sensational season in Portugal, where he netted 43 goals in all competitions. Arsenal were believed to be leading the race, even reportedly preparing a bid close to his €100 million release clause. However, negotiations have stalled due to Sporting’s firm stance and Arsenal’s unwillingness to meet the full valuation upfront.

Romano provided the latest update, saying:

> “Talks for Gyökeres have gone quiet. Arsenal are not advancing at the moment. It’s not a deal they are actively working on now.”

This revelation comes after weeks of speculation and increasing interest from other clubs, including Chelsea and Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe. While Arsenal remain in the market for a top striker, alternative targets such as Benjamin Sesko and Santiago Giménez are now being monitored more closely.

The Gunners have already made strides in midfield with the signing of Christian Nørgaard and are looking to finalize a deal for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. However, fans hoping for a marquee striker signing may be left disappointed if the club fails to reignite talks for Gyökeres or pivot to another elite name.

With pre-season approaching, time is ticking for Arsenal to make a decisive move in the transfer market. For now, the Gyökeres saga looks to be on hold — or possibly over entirely.
