‘Complete’ Striker on Arsenal Radar Set for £58m Move to Saudi Pro League as Fabrizio Romano Says ‘Here We Go’.

Arsenal’s hopes of signing highly-rated striker Mateo Retegui have officially ended, as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a “here we go” deal that will take the Atalanta star to the Saudi Pro League in a sensational £58 million move.

Retegui, who had been described by scouts as a “complete” centre-forward due to his blend of physicality, link-up play, and clinical finishing, had been on Arsenal’s radar earlier this summer as Mikel Arteta looked to strengthen his attacking options. However, despite interest from multiple European clubs, it’s the financial might of Saudi Arabia that has prevailed.

According to Romano, Al Qadsiah have reached full agreement with Atalanta over a deal worth €67 million (£58m), including bonuses and sell-on clauses. The 25-year-old striker has already agreed personal terms, with a long-term contract that will reportedly see his weekly wages skyrocket from £73,000 to over £430,000 — a salary package Arsenal were never likely to match.

Retegui had impressed in Serie A last season, netting 17 goals in all competitions and earning admiration for his all-around contribution to Atalanta’s European qualification campaign. His departure will leave a hole for the Italian club but signals the Saudi Pro League’s continued pull in attracting elite-level talent in their prime.

For Arsenal, the focus now shifts fully onto alternative striker targets, with negotiations continuing for Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres. The Gunners have also shown interest in Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and remain in the market for dynamic attacking reinforcements. While the Retegui saga ends in disappointment, Arteta and Edu remain confident of landing a top forward before the window shuts.
