Rúben Amorim heaps praise on “very good” Manchester United star who’s added a new skill-set this summer.

Sporting CP manager Rúben Amorim has lavished praise on Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, describing him as a “very good player” who has significantly evolved over the summer.

Speaking during a recent interview, Amorim, who has been linked with a potential future move to the Premier League, revealed he’s been closely monitoring several Manchester United players — and singled out McTominay for special recognition.

“He’s always been a strong physical presence and a reliable midfielder,” Amorim said. “But this summer, he’s clearly added more layers to his game — especially in terms of offensive contribution and positional flexibility. It’s not just about his work rate anymore; he’s now making better decisions in the final third.”

McTominay, 27, has impressed in United’s preseason tour, often pushing further forward in midfield and even playing as a late-arriving goal threat. His newfound composure in tight spaces and increased passing range have also drawn attention from coaches and pundits alike.

Amorim continued: “It’s exciting to see players evolve like that, especially in a high-pressure environment like Manchester United. He’s more dynamic, more refined, and it looks like he’s worked hard to adapt his style. Very good player.”

The Portuguese coach’s comments have added fuel to speculation that McTominay could play a more prominent role under Erik ten Hag this season. With Manchester United exploring midfield reinforcements, McTominay’s development may prove valuable in a transitional campaign.

McTominay has also been attracting interest from clubs across Europe, but United appear determined to keep hold of him — particularly after a preseason that has shown new dimensions to his game.

As Amorim concluded: “The best players are the ones who keep growing. McTominay is doing exactly that.”
