🚨 Manchester United have identified VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller as a serious alternative to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, should their pursuit of the Cameroonian international collapse.
Sources close to the club reveal that United’s recruitment team have been tracking Stiller for months, impressed by his consistency, intelligence on the ball, and ability to dictate the tempo from deep.
The 23-year-old German has been one of Stuttgart’s standout performers in the Bundesliga, showcasing his excellent passing range, composure under pressure, and tactical awareness. While Baleba is seen as a more physically imposing and dynamic presence, Stiller offers a different profile — a cerebral playmaker capable of controlling games and linking defence with attack seamlessly. His technical skill set is highly valued by manager Ruben Amorim, who is keen to add more precision and control to United’s midfield.
One major advantage for United is that Stiller could be available at a significantly lower price than Baleba, whose valuation by Brighton has soared past the £100 million mark. Stuttgart, while eager to keep hold of their star, may be open to negotiations if a fair offer is presented, especially with the player’s contract situation offering potential leverage.
United’s interest in Stiller also comes as part of a broader strategy to diversify their midfield options, with the club wary of overcommitting resources to a single high-cost target. With INEOS pushing for a more sustainable transfer approach, the recruitment department is exploring players who combine quality with value.
Although no formal bid has yet been lodged, initial contacts have been made with Stiller’s representatives, and there is a growing sense that he could emerge as a realistic signing in the coming weeks. Much will depend on the progress — or breakdown — of negotiations with Brighton for Baleba.
