FA announced announces point deduction from Manchester City which Liverpool is a beneficiary

Liverpool will be one of a number of Premier League sides keeping a close eye on Manchester City’s hearing by an Independent Commission

Manchester City’s chances of being relegated from the Premier League have been calculated – as Liverpool eagerly watch on.

Pep Guardiola’s side are facing the prospect of heavy punishment after the Premier League levelled 115 charges at their feet in February after a four-year investigation. The charges levelled at City stem from 2009 to 2018, a nine-year period which saw the club win three Premier League titles. One of those came at the expense of Brendan Rodgers’ 2013-14 Liverpool side.

A report from the Daily Mail on Thursday claimed that the Cityzens are set to have their case heard by an Independent Commission at the end of 2024.

The case is set to make for interesting viewing for the likes of City’s title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal as well as Manchester United and Everton, after the Blues were docked 10 points last month for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules over a three-year period between 2019 and 2022.

Despite Manchester City vehemently denying the charges, AltIndex.com have provided the latest odds for where Pep Guardiola’s side will begin the 2025/26 season.

Manchester City start the 2025/26 season in the EPL as normal, with no relegation or points deduction at that point – 4/5

Manchester City start the 2025/26 season in EPL but with a points deduction – 2/1

Manchester City to start the 2025/26 season in Premier League – 1/4

Manchester City to start the 2025/26 season in Championship – 5/1

Manchester City to start the 2025/26 season in League One – 20/1

Manchester City to start the 2025/26 season in League Two – 33/1

Manchester City to start the 2025/26 season in National League – 50/1

If found guilty, a punishment of any kind is likely to boost Liverpool’s chances of securing a second Premier League title, having previously missed out on the 2019 and 2022 titles by a single point.
