Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag may well feel hard done by with a refereeing decision that went against the Red Devils in the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United won 1-0 against a rather lacklustre Manchester United team with Erik ten Hag looking more and more exacerbated as time went on.
United failed to create any chances of real note at St James’ Park as the hosts looked very comfortable in the encounter, 1-0 flattered the Red Devils at times.
However, despite this, there is one decision that went against United in the game that will frustrate Ten Hag more than most.

Refereeing decision
In the second half of the game, Newcastle defender Fabian Schar appeared to use his studs on Bruno Fernandes’ ankle.
The Swiss defender was penalised for the incident but he should have been sent off for the tackle on the Manchester United captain, which caused a lengthy injury stoppage. Newcastle got away with this one.
Had the defender been sent off, the Red Devils would have been right back in the game and could have taken something from their encounter against Eddie Howe’s side.

It came at a key point in the game when Erik ten Hag’s side were beginning to mount a late fightback. They fell just short, having an offside goal disallowed, and can be left wondering what might have been if the home side were reduced to 10 men.
The Red Devils have certainly had their fair share of refereeing decisions not go their way this season but this was yet another example to add to the growing list of decisions not going United’s way.
Refereeing inconsistencies
During United’s clash with Southampton last season, United midfielder Casemiro was dismissed for an alleged dangerous tackle the Brazilian committed against the Saints.
However, this season, Schar committed a similar offence which was certainly dangerous, but the Newcastle defender remained on the pitch and was crucial for the Geordie side as they held onto the victory at St James’ Park.
Ten Hag will be rueing his luck with referees this season as Schar really should have been dismissed for the dangerous tackle on the United captain.
Despite this, the Red Devils did not deserve anything from their clash with Newcastle and will have to dust themselves down and prepare for a clash against Chelsea.
