Murphy added: “He’s athletic, calm on the ball, he likes getting his foot in and he’s emotional. He was geeing their fans up when he came off in the game.

“He’s got everything you’d want in a midfielder, that mix of tenacity – I’ll have a go – and that calmness on the ball. He’s going to be a really, really big player for United in the future.
“I think he’s only started three games: away at Everton, away at Newcastle and away at Liverpool. For a young kid, the manager and the other players must trust him.”
Mainoo, who was born in Stockport, progressed through United’s famed academy and made his top-flight debut for the club last month.
