The three Liverpool players most at risk of being sold in 2024
2023 has largely been a year to forget for Liverpool and a number of their players.
There were high points, that’s for sure. But with no trophy to show and a couple of really poor moments to boot, it certainly hasn’t been a vintage. Better times look to be ahead in 2024, but here are three players we think may get left behind over the next 12 months.
Caoimhin Kelleher
This is an easy one, really. Having looked set to leave over the summer, plenty had already pencilled in 2023 as the year Caoimhin Kelleher’s Liverpool career came to an end.
However, with takers ultimately put off by the Reds’ asking-price, Kelleher stayed put.
In the end, that turned out to be a good thing. With Alisson Becker suffering a little injury this season, Liverpool have need Caoimhin. As Alisson himself said, the Irishman made some ‘unbelievable’ saves in his absence.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean Liverpool’s stance on selling him has changed. Having once again shown himself to be a good deputy, suitors could be more willing to step forward in 2024. If an offer comes in, we can’t see how Kelleher stays.
Luis Diaz
This might be a controversial one, but we think Luis Diaz is now at serious risk of being sold by Liverpool.
The Colombian is still a big part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad and is regularly in the starting XI. But over the past few months, the signs have been there that Diaz just isn’t the same after his injury woes of 2022/23.

One goal in his past 15 Premier League matches simply isn’t good enough. For the volume of chances Liverpool create, a forward should be getting much, much more.
Again, some will feel that Lucho deserves more time, and he probably does. But if the 26-year-old continues to be profligate through the second-half of the season, he may not survive the summer at Anfield. Saturday’s poor showing against Arsenal was yet more evidence. Come on, Lucho, turn it around!

Darwin Nunez
Just like Diaz, this might be an unpopular choice. But it also needs to be said: Darwin Nunez may not be the answer for Liverpool.
Nunez started this season brilliantly and has still been far more good than bad for the Reds. But, again like Diaz, if he continues to fluff his lines in the New Year and into the Spring, Liverpool have a decision to make with him.
They’ll perhaps be loathe to see the 24-year-old leave after just two years, especially after the amount they spent on getting him to the club. But if it just isn’t working, it just isn’t working.
Nunez is still delivering to some kind of degree for Liverpool, so perhaps this conversation is a little premature. However, things need to start turning around a little more quickly. Until they do, the questions over Darwin’s long-term suitability will remain.
