Manchester City are hoping to sign Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich in the summer to become their very own Trent Alexander-Arnold. The versatile German midfielder is equally adept as both a defensive midfielder and right back like his English counterpart.
According to the Daily Star, Pep Guardiola is a keen admirer of the player but is aware that his £50million price tag will be slashed in half if City can wait until July to make a move when Kimmich enters the final 12 months of his contract at the Allianz Arena.
Liverpool and Manchester United are also waiting to pounce but won’t do so in the January transfer window either. Kimmich is aware of the interest in him and is particularly inspired by a move to the Etihad to play under Guardiola once again.
Guardiola signed Kimmich from RB Leipzig in January 2015 and together they won a Bundesliga and a DFB-Pokal cup before the Spaniard left for Man City the following year. Despite still being only 28 years old, Kimmich has already won an impressive 19 club trophies during his career, 12 more than Alexander-Arnold’s seven with Liverpool.

While Kimmich is keen to be reunited with his former manager he is also happy to stay put. His stance is somewhat surprising considering his lack of game time this season under Thomas Tuchel. Kimmich has played 11 Bundesliga games out of a possible 17 and has been used as more of a rotational player in the 2023/2024 campaign.
Yet the 28-year-old remains one of the best-holding midfielders in the world and would serve as excellent competition for Rodri in the centre of the park at City while also adding further depth at right back which they will need as Kyle Walker enters the twilight of his career.

Reports in Germany claim Kimmich is unlikely to sign a new deal with Bayern this year despite being an important member of the squad. One of the main factors contributing to that sentiment is his rocky relationship with Tuchel.
The Bayern boss is reportedly at odds with Kimmich over his starting position in his side. Tuchel believes the 86-cap German international is “too slow” to be his No 6. He instead prefers him as a No 8, however, Kimmich wants to remain in his natural position.
