£11m Manchester City player just asked to leave, although Guardiola convinced him to stay
Sergio Gomez recently asked to leave Manchester City for AC Milan – although Pep Guardiola convinced the Spaniard to stay.
That is according to Planeta Milan.
So, what is the situation involving Sergio Gomez at Manchester City? Let’s take a look…
Sergio Gomez attempted to leave
Well, the Manchester City No.21 has only made two Premier League appearances so far this season – totalling just 15 minutes of action – with both outings coming as a substitute.
Gomez was seemingly frustrated by that, as Planeta Milan believe he asked to depart for the San Siro after the Italian giants expressed interest.
However, Guardiola – despite failing to play his fellow countryman much this term – remains a huge fan, and managed to convince the Spain U21 international to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

It was not mentioned whether AC Milan proposed a permanent deal or a loan move for Gomez – who recently called Rodri the best player in the world.
Pep Guardiola’s desire to keep Sergio Gomez at Manchester City makes sense
Presumably, the 52-year-old told Gomez that more chances would arise for him as Manchester City approach the business end of the 2023/24 campaign, where fixtures come thick and fast.
Guardiola may have also wanted to keep the £11m man amid doubts over the future of Kalvin Phillips in Manchester – Newcastle are pushing hard to sign the England international on loan.
Gomez is able to operate in central midfield as well as full-back, so his versatility will be very useful for Guardiola if the Manchester City No.4 does depart.

At the age of just 23, the Badalona-born talent is certainly worth persisting with, and he undoubtedly has the quality to play a bigger role for Manchester City in the second half of the season.
Therefore, it is good news to hear that Gomez now plans to stay in Manchester.
