Manchester United’s Under-18s returned from the international break on Saturday morning with a home match against Nottingham Forest.

United had a young squad with many of Scotland’s leading figures among the reserves. This opened the door for numerous debuts, including Godwill Kukonki, who was involved from the start at left back. While the pitch saw new faces, the wing featured an old face in the form of Phil Jones, who was part of the coaching staff that day. There were few chances for either side in the opening quarter of an hour until a cross from Malachi Sharpe was not cleared, allowing Reece Munro to fire in from close range. But it was blocked by the goal line. Forest then threatened with a cross of their own, which was eventually fired into the side netting.

In the 23rd minute, Ruben Curley decided to shoot from distance, which was aimed at the top corner, but was deflected over the crossbar with an equally impressive save.

Curley then passed the ball inside to Sharpe, who opened up space for a shot from the edge of the area, but it was deflected. Forest’s five-man defense proved difficult to break through.
