A ‘date has been set’ for Manchester City’s 115 financial charges hearing by the Premier League

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has confirmed a date has been set for Manchester City’s 115 financial charges hearing.

The league champions were slapped with 115 charges relating to alleged financial irregularities last February, and at last, Masters has revealed “a date has been set” for the hearing.

Masters was questioned by MPs on the latest financial agreement in England’s top-flight and the prospect of an independent regulator being introduced in football – amid Everton and Nottingham Forest being charged with breaches of the league’s profitability and sustainability rules.

The Premier League’s chief told MPs about the date but refused to share any more information, admitting: “I can’t say when that is”. He also insisted “the volume and character” of City’s charges are different to those against Everton and Nottingham Forest.

After months of deliberating, chiefs have seemingly nailed their date for the hearing, though it could mean City may not learn their fate until next year at the earliest.

City have vehemently denied any wrongdoing. But if they are found guilty, the club could be hit with serious sanctions and possibly a points deduction or even relegation.
