Manchester City defender subject to transfer interest with deal eyed in the next five years

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola may potentially see another player leave the first-team squad in the near future, as the Turkish transfer market is set to close on February 9 and there is new interest in one of his players.

The January transfer window saw Manchester City make very little major transfer business, with Claudio Echeverri and Kalvin Phillips’ deals being the most notable. Echeverri, one of Argentina’s most promising prospects, has signed a long-term deal with Manchester City, which will see him move to the Etihad Stadium at the end of the calendar year after extending his stay with his current club via a loan deal. Phillips, on the other hand, completed a temporary switch to West Ham United on a six-month loan agreement in the hope of securing consistent game time ahead of the European Championships.

Now, another out-of-favour Manchester City player, Sergio Gomez, is being linked with a move away. Turkish club Galatasaray has reportedly added the versatile defensive option to their transfer target list for the ongoing market.

The Turkish transfer window remains open until February 9, providing an opportunity for clubs to continue to negotiate deals. The Turkish giants are reportedly eager to sign 23-year-old Spaniard Sergio Gomez in the next few days, as the player is said to fit into the requirements of the club’s manager, Okan Buruk.

Sergio Gomez joined Manchester City from RSC Anderlecht in the summer market of 2022 and has been utilized as a left-back option as well as in central midfield roles and across the forward line. His versatility has been showcased in his duties with Spain’s under-21 set-up.

With the potential departure of another player from the squad, Pep Guardiola could see his squad being cut even shorter in the coming days.
