Roy Keane accuses Gary Neville of bias when selecting MOTM from Manchester United win
Two former Manchester United players were in the studio after Sunday’s 2-1 win against Aston Villa.
During Sky Sports’ post-match analysis of the late kick-off on Sunday, Roy Keane implied Gary Neville has a bias when selecting the player of the match.
It was a relief to watch Erik ten Hag’s side come away from Villa Park with three points because we all want to be seeing United push for a place in the top four at the end of the season.
Harry Maguire started alongside Raphael Varane in United’s ever-charging defence. He was a nuisance for Villa in the air and won a header from a corner to find Rasmus Hojlund for United’s opener.
I wasn’t surprised to hear Neville name Maguire as his Player of the Match, however, Keane wouldn’t have went that far.
The Irishman said (via Daily Mail): “I thought he did alright today, obviously some lads give defenders Man of the Match because they’ve been defenders themselves – that type of scenario. It was definitely going to be a defender.”
When asked who he would’ve chosen instead of Maguire, Keane replied: “No big deal about that but we’ve praised the defenders considered the amount of chances Villa had.
“Winning Man of the Match the bottom line is it’s no big deal, what’s important for Maguire is he’s getting games under his belt and he’s getting back up to speed.
“He’s a good, solid, experienced defender. The problems are still there for Man United, they got away with it today because the attacking players are scoring goals.”
Rasmus Hojlund continued to shine for Manchester United, extending his scoring streak to five consecutive games, but it was Scott McTominay who ultimately stole the spotlight with a dramatic 87th-minute winner against Aston Villa.
Hojlund’s early goal, his fifth in as many games, gave United the lead.
However, Douglas Luiz equalized for Villa after United suffered a setback with Luke Shaw’s injury at halftime.
McTominay, who has been a consistent goalscorer for United this season, rose to the occasion once again, heading in Diogo Dalot’s cross to secure all three points for Erik ten Hag’s side.
His seventh goal of the campaign reaffirmed his status as United’s leading league scorer, with each goal proving crucial in United’s victories.
After the completion of the match, England and Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire was named the man of the after his solid performance against Aston Villa.
The centre-back was a rock in the heart of defence for the Manchester based outfit and also capped his performance off with a brilliant assist for the opening goal
‘Make it make sense’: Man United fans fume as Casemiro booked for barely touching Matty Cash
Manchester United fans are furious at Casemiro’s latest yellow card for a supposed foul on Matty Cash.
Replays show the midfielder barely touching Cash and even raising his hands in advance to deny any wrongdoing.
The referee still booked Casemiro, much to the disbelief of Man United players. And the fans too can’t believe it, even as they lead 1-0 with Aston Villa at Villa Park.
