Premier League club ‘likely’ to accept € 80 million Man City transfer offer as Pep Guardiola eyes second summer signing
Manchester City may be looking to acquire the services of West Ham star Lucas Paqueta this summer, should they rekindle their interest in the midfielder. Last summer, the 26-year-old seemed poised to make the move from the London Stadium to the Etihad Stadium after a deal worth £80 million was agreed upon by both clubs. However, a potential transfer fell through due to an investigation by the FA and FIFA into irregular bets placed in Brazil.
Despite the collapsed deal, Paqueta moved to West Ham from Lyon for a club-record £51 million in 2022 and played a pivotal role in helping the Hammers secure the UEFA Europa Conference League title last season. While currently sidelined due to injury, Paqueta has been directly involved in seven Premier League goals in 18 appearances this season, surpassing his previous tally from the last campaign.
With Manchester City expected to bolster their midfield during the summer transfer window, they may be enticed by Paqueta’s impressive performance. Football Insider suggests that West Ham could be open to accepting an offer from Manchester City for Paqueta, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the alleged betting breaches. The investigation is reportedly close to completion, and City remains keen on signing the Brazil international, with the likelihood of facing little resistance from West Ham, provided they meet the transfer valuation set by the Hammers.
There have also been discussions about the possibility of including Kalvin Phillips as part of a transfer deal, with the England midfielder currently on loan at the London Stadium from Manchester City. Additionally, City has been linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich and is poised to add fellow Brazilian Savio from within the City Football Group.
As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes are on Manchester City and their potential pursuit of Lucas Paqueta, as well as their plans to strengthen their midfield for the upcoming season.
