‘Sad’… John Stones says he was actually gutted when Man City sold £42m player
John Stones has revealed how he felt after seeing Cole Palmer leave Manchester City.
After working his way through the youth ranks at the Manchester club, Palmer was sold to Chelsea during the previous summer transfer window in a deal worth over £42m.
With the winger now set to take on his old side later today when Mauricio Pochettino’s team travel to the Etihad Stadium for their latest Premier League match, one of his old teammates has shared his thoughts about him.

Speaking in a recent interview with the club, Stones had this to say about Palmer, his move away from City and his return to the Etihad for today’s game.
He said: “Cole has been great in the games that I have seen and I am super happy for him. I was quite close with Cole and sad to see him leave us, but that is his own path and journey in his career. I am happy for him and if he is happy that is the main thing.

“He was a great player for us while he was here and he has hit the ground running whilst he has been at Chelsea. It will be fun to play against him if we are both selected tomorrow. I am sure he has got a lot of fond memories while he was with us. He had been here a long time and from a young age.
“He will be coming back to the Etihad, but it is about us doing what we normally do, being a team together and putting our game plan into practice on the pitch.”
After making his senior debut for the Citizens back in September 2020, Palmer went on to make 41 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring six goals and delivering two assists.
Since joining Chelsea, the winger has found the back of the net 12 times and provided nine assists in 28 games across all competitions prior to tonight’s match.
This shows how well the attacker has done since becoming a regular figure in Chelsea’s team.
The fact that Stones has now said that he was sad to see Palmer leave City in the summer shows how much of a popular and liked person he was in the squad, who has now shown what he can do on the pitch when given the chance to play regularly.
Palmer reminds me of another great player that started at City One called Ryan Giggs if you have heard of him
