Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund breaks long standing Premier League record

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has become the youngest-ever player to score in six successive Premier League games, following his opening goal against Luton Town.

Leading the line against the Hatters, Rasmus made no mistake in notching past Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, after seizing on an early mistake by Amari’i Bell.

The Dane took just 37 seconds to find the net – United’s quickest-ever Premier League away goal – as he set the tone for an entertaining first period in Bedfordshire.

Just a fortnight on from his 21st birthday, Hojlund beat Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock to become the youngest player to score in half-a-dozen straight matches.

Willock was 21 years and 272 days when he went on a hot streak for the Magpies, shortly after signing from Arsenal.

Manchester United added another win to their collection at Kenilworth Road.

Manchester United moved to within five points of the Premier League’s top four with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Sunday afternoon.

Rasmus Hojlund continued his impressive run of form, scoring twice inside the opening seven minutes to put United in a commanding position from the off. However, Luton responded well to those two early setbacks, getting themselves on the scoresheet with just 14 minutes played via Carlton Morris.

Though United had chances to restore their two-goal cushion in the second half, the best of which fell to Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes, Luton fought until the very last whistle in pursuit of a share of the spoils. United have now won each of their last four league matches.

Though Aston Villa won on Saturday, beating Fulham 2-1, Tottenham Hotspur slipped up, losing by the same scoreline at home to Wolves. United are now just three points behind the Londoners in the standings and five short of Villa.

With the race for Champions League qualification hotting up, MEN Sport has had a look at United’s next six league fixtures and compared them to those of their nearest competitors chasing the same goal.

Manchester United – 6th (44pts)

Fulham (H) – February 24

Manchester City (A) – March 3

Everton (H) – March 9

Sheffield United (H) – March 16

Brentford (A) – March 30

Chelsea (A) – April 3

Verdict: Though the clash with Sheffield United will be rearranged if United progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup later this month, United’s upcoming crop of fixtures feature a blend of different challenges. However, with the exception of the trip to the Etihad Stadium to face City in a fortnight’s time, they will enter the bulk of them as favourites.

United must secure maximum points from the home clashes with Fulham and Everton and be confident enough to take something from the trips to London to face Brentford and Chelsea.
