Man Utd fans proven right as Dortmund fans turn on Jadon Sancho as he struggled on his Champions League return
Manchester United fans believe they’ve been proven right with some Borussia Dortmund supporters already losing patience with Jadon Sancho.
Sancho returned to Champions League action on Tuesday as Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 with PSV Eindhoven.
Dortmund took a first half lead in the first leg of the last-16 tie in the Netherlands, but the hosts drew level from the penalty spot shortly after half-time.
Sancho was withdrawn in the 68th minute, and it’s fair to say he had a night to forget on his return to European club football’s biggest stage.
The 23-year-old winger didn’t register a goal or an assist, and failed to create a single chance or successfully complete a dribble.
To add insult to injury, Sancho completed just 71 per cent of his attempted passes, lost possession on 12 occasions and won just two of his seven duels.
Sancho returned to Dortmund – the club Man United signed him from in a £73 million deal in 2021 – on loan in January after he fell out with United boss Erik ten Hag.
In September Ten Hag publicly cited Sancho’s application in training as the reason why he was left out of United’s Premier League trip to Arsenal.
Sancho hit back ad claimed he was being treated an a scapegoat, and after he refused to apologise, he was frozen out of the first team squad.
United fans were split over who was to blame, but those who thought Sancho was in the wrong now feel vindicated following the attacker’s poor performance.
“But I thought Ten Hag was the problem? Big flop!,” one fan wrote on X, while another said: “Now everyone can see Ten Hag was not the problem.”
It appears that patience with Sancho is already running thin among sections of Dortmund’s support.
“]Marco] Reus and Sancho are total failures today. It’s a shame, I was hoping for Champions League BVB but the situation just doesn’t get any better,” one fan of the Bundesliga club wrote on X.
“Sancho is actually rewarded from his last stint at BVB. He has shown absolutely nothing and you have a young talent who is capable of threatening a defense on the bench. [Edin] Terzic is loyal to the absolute worst players,” another said.
One fans had had enough, saying: “Get Sancho outta here man.”
Sancho has provided two assists in six outings for Dortmund since returning to the club.
In another Manchester United news….
While pleased to contribute to the crucial victory of Manchester United against Luton Town, striker Rasmus Hojlund confessed to a lingering sense of disappointment. The Danish star, instrumental in securing the win, acknowledged that a wider margin would have been more satisfying.
Manchester United‘s Rasmus Hojlund netted a pair of dazzling goals within the opening minutes at Kenilworth Road, propelling his team to a swift 2-0 lead. However, the home side, Luton Town, refused to lie down, with Carlton Morris finding the back of the net to ignite a thrilling encounter that remained tightly contested until the final whistle.
The excitement continued throughout the match, with both teams creating numerous opportunities to snatch victory. Even star striker Hojlund faced frustration when his close-range shot in the second half was expertly parried away by the impressive goalkeeper, Thomas Kaminski. The tension remained high until the very end, with neither side able to convert their chances and claim the win.
Bruno Fernandes had a perfect opportunity to score as he bypassed the Luton goalkeeper, but his shot was blocked by Albert Sambi Lokonga. Additionally, Alejandro Garnacho missed a great chance to score one-on-one against Kaminski.
Manchester United secured another hard-fought victory, but striker Rasmus Hojlund issued a stern warning. While they managed to scrape by with three points, further lapses could derail their hopes for a strong finish. Hojlund emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and intensity throughout the entire match. He urged his teammates to avoid complacency if they wanted to achieve their goals. He stressed that every point counts, and they cannot afford to let their guard down for even a moment.
“Three points is the most important. I am there to help the team, so I am happy,“ he told BBC’s Match of the Day.
“We are switching off a little bit. We made it hard for ourselves today.”
“I had a chance myself that I needed to put in the back of the net. Of course, we need to score those. But I am sure that next week we will bounce back and show Old Trafford what we are made of.”
