Manchester United stars are all “happy” for winger Facundo Pellistri despite his fourth defeat in five matches, insists captain Bruno Fernandes. Pellistri made a rare start in United’s 4-3 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

The absence of Antony and Jadon Sancho opened up a starting place for Pellistri. The 21-year-old made his first start this season and played 80 minutes in the second half of the season, but was replaced late on by Alejandro Garnacho. Pellistri missed playing time under Erik ten Hag, making just 14 appearances for the Dutchman. A series of attacking signings has seen the Uruguay international fall down the pecking order.
But Pellistri impressed his colleagues with his performance against Bayern, where he faced a tough task alongside left-back Alphonso Davies. Fernandes said the former Penarol star deserved his chance because of his training performances and behavior.

“Pellistri is one of the players who deserves his chances. He deserves a lot of credit for everything he’s been through and everything he’s done for the team,” Fernandes said.
“He is always available, he is someone who always trains hard, he is someone who deserves his opportunities and he has done well.
“He did the job that the coach asked of him and we are all happy for him because he really deserves to have his opportunities.”
