Former striker Michael Owen believes Manchester United should sack Erik ten Hag because their style of play is difficult to process.

United slipped to a second successive Premier League defeat on Sunday afternoon, losing 3-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Despite taking an early lead through Marcus Rashford, goals from Phil Foden (2) and Erling Haaland sealed a relatively comfortable win for Pep Guardiola’s side.

As expected, United approached the contest with the ambition of frustrating City and hitting them on the counter-attack. Though they rode their luck in the first half, their gameplan was working by half-time.

After the break, though, they failed to lay so much as a glove on their hosts, registering just one shot in the entirety of the second half. Though City must be applauded for their performance and restricting United to so little, Owen is baffled by what his former club are trying to achieve, admitting he cannot describe what the Reds’ style of play actually is.
