MANCHESTER UNITED consider Scott McTominay as replaceable, await fresh West Ham interest

Manchester United consider midfielder Scott McTominay as replaceable as they await fresh interest from West Ham United.

The Scotland international was on the radar of the Hammers last summer. David Moyes’ side made a formal offer of £30 million, but it was deemed insufficient by United.

The transfer decision received a mixed fan response at the time, but the club graduate has proved crucial to United’s pursuit of Champions League football this term.

McTominay is currently the joint-top scorer alongside Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford in the Premier League with seven goals – eight in all competitions.

His goals have contributed to United winning 12 points in the top-flight. Without him, the club would be 12th in the table with just 35 points and a negative goal difference.

I Sport have recently reported that United see McTominay as replaceable despite his goal exploits. They are hoping that the Hammers make a fresh proposal in the summer.

In our view, the club would be making a huge mistake by parting ways with the 27-year-old.

As a club graduate, United stand to receive a complete profit from his sale when it comes to Financial Fair Play, but we feel the midfielder still has a lot to offer going forward.

First of all, he is a homegrown talent. The Scot has a gifted ability of finding the back of the net and he has been brilliantly used as a super-sub by manager Erik ten Hag.

McTominay is no longer good enough to cement a starting spot in the club’s midfield, but remains a quality squad player and has the ability to change game situations.

If United are looking for funds from player sales, they should look at parting ways with fringe players on loan rather than contemplating over the departure of McTominay.

The scenario could be different if the midfielder asks to leave. As thing stand, there has been no indication from the player’s side that he wants to pursue a new challenge.
