‘I’d love that to happen’… Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United star to stay at club for life and break records
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has endured a difficult season but remains one of the club’s star players.
Marcus Rashford has shown Manchester United supporters what he is capable of. He just has not been able to produce it on a consistent basis.
This is what fuels the frustration for fans, because we know he can deliver at a higher level than we have seen this season, where he is yet to reach double figures, after scoring 30 last season.
Manager Erik ten Hag has retained faith in Rashford, and there is hope he recovers to his very best, whether this season or next.

Marcus Rashford speculation
Marcus Rashford’s capability to perform at a high level means he is an asset other teams would love to have, with The Mirror reporting Paris Saint-Germain could try and offer a big fee to tempt United into a sale.
And there’s a case. A speculated fee of £75 million would be close to a club record sale, and it would also free Manchester United of Rashford’s £300,000 per week wages.
Ally McCoist told Talksport Rashford would benefit from a move away from the club. Perhaps he would. But Manchester United are stronger with a fully focused forward at the top of his game.
Rashford is one of United’s top academy graduates in recent years, and letting him leave would be a very controversial move.
Rio Ferdinand wants Marcus Rashford to stay at United
Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand wants to see Marcus Rashford stay, for a very long time.
Speaking to Five, Ferdinand says he would love Rashford to be at Rashford for the entirety of his career.
He explained: “With Marcus, you just want him to be that, I’d love him to be that one-club player for the rest of his career, break all the records, and kind of put the club on his back and be that guy.
“Now the fortunes are going to hopefully turn with Ineos coming in, in the next couple of years and he’s central to that, and I’d love that to happen.”
Wanting it to happen, and it actually happening, are two different things. This season’s backwards step may only be temporary, but it has been a shock to the system for United fans and Rashford himself, after the highs of 2022/23.
While he is United’s highest active goalscorer with 130 goals for the club, 16th in the all time list, Rashford has a long way to go to surpass Wayne Rooney on 253.
In terms of breaking into the highest appearances list, Rashford has a long way to go, he ranks 34th overall with 393.
To make it into the top 10 he needs to catch Denis Irwin on 529. If he stays at United another decade, Rashford is in with a chance of doing what Ferdinand wants, breaking records – but he must earn the right to do so.
