Arsenal injury news and return dates ahead of the North London Derby against Tottenham on Sunday – Mikel Arteta
Update

Mikel Arteta is set to be without three key players as Arsenal prepare to face Tottenham in the North London Derby on Sunday.

The Gunners will welcome Ange Postecoglou’s side to the Emirates Stadium with both teams still unbeaten in the Premier League so far this season.

It’s unclear whether Gabriel Martinelli will be available for selection against Spurs after he missed the 4-0 win against PSV in the Champions League earlier this week. The 22-year-old has not been spotted in training ahead of the North London Derby.

Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber remain sidelined with injuries – whilst Mohamed Elneny returned to the matchday squad earlier this week. With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Gunners injury news.

Thomas Partey

The Ghanian FA confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Partey had sustained a groin problem during a training session on Thursday, a major blow to Arteta. It remains to be seen how long the 30-year-old will be on the sidelines for.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal hope Partey will be available after the October international break.

Injury: Groin

Return date: October

Ghana FA said: “He sustained a groin injury during training on Thursday, August 31, 2023. He is currently unavailable as Club Doctors predict he’s likely to be out for a couple of weeks.”

Mikel Arteta stated: “ He’s still a few weeks away. He’s got a muscle injury. He’s progressing well, but he’s still a few weeks away.”

Gabriel Martinelli
Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has suffered a hamstring injury during the win against Everton. The Brazilian winger looks set for a period of time on the sidelines with Champions League football returning to the Emirates Stadium this week – before the North London Derby against Tottenham next weekend.

Martinelli missed training on Tuesday ahead of the Champions League clash against PSV at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta: “Yeah, he felt something in his hamstring and we need to do some further tests to see if there’s some big damage or not but he will be out for tomorrow’s game that’s for sure.”

Return date: Unknown

Jurrien Timber

He was in attendance for the game against Man United. Football.london spoke to Timber post-match where the 22-year-old was still using the aid of two crutches to move about.

Asked how he was feeling with his recovery, a swift, “good, good” was the response. He will be sorely missed, especially with the club failing to find a suitable replacement in the summer transfer window.

Injury: Knee

Return date: 2024

Arteta: “Huge blow. Especially for him after just joining the club. To have the injury he has is a huge blow. We recruited him with clear intentions and what he was bringing to the team was evident, but he’s not going to be able to do it this season. We have to adapt. These things happen, unfortunately, and we have to move on.”
