Date Announced – Man United ‘consider’ Erik ten Hag sack – with next few matches critical
Erik ten Hag’s Job at Risk as Manchester United Contemplate Managerial Change
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, is facing immense pressure, and his job may be on the line if results fail to improve.
Reports suggest that Manchester United is contemplating parting ways with the Dutchman after just over a year in charge. While Ten Hag enjoyed a successful debut season at Old Trafford, securing the club’s first piece of silverware since 2017 in the form of the League Cup and securing a spot in the Champions League, things have taken a downturn since then.
Their recent defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League adds to their woes, as the Red Devils have managed to secure only two victories in their first six fixtures across all competitions. Sky pundit Paul Merson has gone as far as suggesting that they are “already out of the title race.”
According to Spanish publication Fichajes, United is currently grappling with a “deep crisis,” and Ten Hag’s position is hanging by a thread. The club’s hierarchy is reportedly contemplating a managerial change after just over a year.
However, Football 365 casts doubt on the credibility of these reports, stating that it’s challenging to rely on information from an unverified Spanish media outlet regarding the situation at Old Trafford. Although Ten Hag likely earned some trust following his successful first season, the upcoming Saturday night fixture against Burnley has now become a pivotal moment.
Vincent Kompany’s Burnley demonstrated improvement in their recent match against Nottingham Forest, and a defeat for United could potentially see them plummet as low as 16th in the league standings by the end of the weekend’s fixtures. Nevertheless, Kompany has come to the defense of his counterpart, describing Ten Hag as “extremely capable.”
“One thing this man has demonstrated is that he is extremely capable,” Kompany remarked. “There is no doubting that. All the rest that is happening in the outside world, he can’t control that.”
