Former Manchester City and Real Madrid star, Robinho, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for his role in a gang rape in 2013.

The Brazilian was accused of raping a woman in her 20s at an Italian nightclub eight years ago.

 

The 37-year-old was originally found guilty in 2017 before he was sentenced in December of last year.

 

Robinho chose to appeal the verdict, which has now been upheld in Milan’s Court of Appeal.

 

However, according to Globo, new details have since emerged in the Court of Appeal, alleging that the former AC Milan star and his representatives ‘attempted to deceive investigators’ by providing different accounts on ‘previously agreed facts’.

 

The Court of Appeal added that the footballer ‘belittled’ and ‘brutally humiliated’ the woman.

 

Robinho’s team now has only one final chance to overturn their client’s guilty verdict.

 

The forward has 45 days to lodge a further appeal with the Supreme Court.

 

Meanwhile, Robinho’s contract with Santos had been suspended prior to the recent appeal hearing outcome.

 

Santos president, Orlando Rollo, confirmed recently that Robinho would be sacked if the verdict is upheld.

 

 

 

Brazilian court upholds former Man City player, Robinho’s 9-year jail over rape

 

 

The Brazilian high court has ruled that a former Manchester City player, Robinho, must serve a nine-year prison sentence in Brazil following his conviction on sexual assault in Italy in 2013.

 

Along with five others, he was found guilty of raping a woman in a Milan nightclub and sentenced to nine years.

 

The 40-year-old has denied any wrongdoing and has lost two appeals to overturn his conviction.

 

There was a probability that he would not serve his sentence, as Brazil does not extradite its citizens and he is based in Brazil.

 

However, judges on Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice voted 9-2 on Wednesday to validate the conviction, and he will now serve his sentence in his homeland.

 

Robinho may still appeal the decision to Brazil’s Supreme Court.

Robinho names Manchester City player he ‘fought’ before leaving Etihad

Former Manchester City winger, Robinho has revealed that he fought with former teammate, Craig Bellamy before he left the Etihad Stadium on transfer deadline day in August, 2010.

Robinho, who currently plays for Turkish side, Sivasspor had a dressing-room altercation with Bellamy before his exit.

 

“I had a fight with him [Bellamy] once, but then who at City didn’t?,” Robinho told FourFourTwo.

 

“Some other players had problems with Bellamy, too; he was very explosive. In one game we played against Arsenal, I didn’t have a great first half so he started yelling at me in English when we got back to the dressing room at half-time.

 

“I didn’t understand it, but from the little I could work out, I could tell he wasn’t saying nice things.

 

“Glauber [the Brazilian centre-back who made one City appearance] then helped me by pushing him away, and he quickly calmed down.

I had just come back from a marathon of a journey to play for Brazil and I was feeling very tired. But it was OK, and he came to me the next day and asked me to forgive him.”
