How much Man City paid for every first-team squad player on the transfer market
Manchester City have one of the best squads ever assembled in the history of football – but it’s taken a lot of money to assemble.
When you have a collection of world-class players, capable of winning silverware season after season, it’s not going to come cheap.
Manchester City do look to strike a bargain as often as they can, though, while Pep Guardiola does have a few academy graduates in his side that cost nothing.
Here is every single player in the Blues’ first-team squad and how much they all cost to bring to the Etihad Stadium.

Goalkeepers
Ederson – £35m
Guardiola made Ederson his first-choice goalkeeper when City signed him for £35m from Benfica in 2017.

City signed German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega on a free transfer after he left Arminia Bielefeld in 2022.
Scott Carson – £0
Scott Carson initially joined City on loan from Derby County in 2019 before joining on a free transfer once his contract expired in 2021.

Defenders
Kyle Walker – £45m (rising to £50m)
City spent £50m – an initial £45m then rising by £5m – in 2017 to bring in captain Kyle Walker from Tottenham Hotspur.
Ruben Dias – £62m (rising to £65m)
Centre-back Ruben Dias joined City from Benfica in 2020 for £62m rising to £65m.
John Stones – £47.5m (rising to £50m)
John Stones was Guardiola’s second signing after Ilkay Gundogan and cost City an initial £47.5m, rising to £50m, from Everton.
Nathan Ake – £41m
City signed defender Nathan Ake from Bournemouth for £41m in 2020.
Sergio Gomez – £11m
Sergio Gomez was recruited in 2022 from Anderlecht for £11m.
Josko Gvardiol – £77.6m
Josko Gvardiol was City’s big-money summer signing in 2023 as he arrived from RB Leipzig for £77.6m.
Manuel Akanji – £15m
The Blues signed Manuel Akanji for an absolute bargain from Borussia Dortmund at just £15m in 2022.
Rico Lewis – £0
Rico Lewis is a product of City’s fantastic Elite Development System and cost nothing.

Midfielders
Mateo Kovacic – £25m
City picked up Mateo Kovacic for a relative steal at £25m from Chelsea in 2023.
Rodri – £62.5m
Rodri was signed from Atletico Madrid in 2019 for £62.5m.
Kevin De Bruyne – £54.5m
Kevin De Bruyne was signed from German side Wolfsburg for £54.5m in 2015.
Bernardo Silva – £43m
Bernardo Silva cost the Blues £43m from Monaco in 2017.
Matheus Nunes
City moved to bring versatile midfielder Matheus Nunes in from Wolves in 2023 for £54m.
Kalvin Phillips – £45m
Kalvin Phillips cost £45m from Leeds United in 2022. He is currently on loan at West Ham United.
Oscar Bobb – £0
Oscar Bobb arrived at City as a teenager from Norwegian side Valerenga in 2019. There is no information on if he cost anything but, if he did, it was minimal.
Maximo Perrone – £8.2m
The Cityzens paid £8.2m to sign Argentina starlet Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield in 2023. He’s currently on loan at Las Palmas.
Claudio Echeverri – £12.5m
Teenager Claudio Echeverri was City’s only signing in January 2024 and he cost £12.5m. He will stay on loan at River Plate until 2025.

Forwards
Erling Haaland – £51m
Erling Haaland cost City £51m in transfer fees to Borussia Dortmund in 2022. However, the total cost is expected to be £85.5m when agent fees, signing bonus and other costs are added in.
Jack Grealish – £100m
City met Jack Grealish’s £100m buy-out clause to sign him from Aston Villa in 2022.
Jeremy Doku – £55.5m
Jeremy Doku was signed from Rennes in 2023 for £55.5m.
Julian Alvarez – £14m
City paid £14m to sign Julian Alvarez from River Plate in 2022.
Phil Foden – £0
Phil Foden has been with City since he was just four years old and didn’t cost the club a penny to sign.
