Manchester City director travels to Argentina to finalize signing for June 2024
The director of football for City Group is reportedly in Argentina to finalize Manchester City’s owner’s latest recruit from South America.
The latest development comes as Manchester City and their wider portfolio of sister clubs continue their pursuit of remaining ahead of the competition when it comes to recruiting the finest talents from across the globe.
While South America has remained a market of primary interest to football-focused officials within City and the Group, talents closer to home have remained in their eyesight, with the likes of Cardiff’s Timeo Whisker becoming the latest to join the ongoing project.
However, as Claudio Echeverri continues to thrive on loan at River Plate after completing a deal to join Manchester City in January, and South American talents continue to shine at Girona in particular, a new name from the continent could be on the verge of joining.
That is according to the information of journalist Sebastián Srur, who reports that City Football Group director of football Joan Patsy is currently in Buenos Aires, Argentina ‘trying to close’ the signing of Liverpool Montevideo winger, Luciano Rodriguez.
It is explained that the aim of Patsy’s trip is to finalize the recruitment of the 20-year-old Uruguayan international for the forthcoming June, while additional reports have already mooted a loan move elsewhere within the City Football Group.
Ultimately, the long-term goal within City Group would be to see Rodriguez develop his talents to the point where they are admired and required by Premier League giants Manchester City themselves.
Elsewhere in the world of South American talents, Manchester City supporters are bracing themselves for the arrival of highly-rated Brazilian winger Savio in the summer, after the club agreed a deal with ESTAC Troyes over the currently on-loan forward at Girona.
Yan Couto is another name well within Manchester City’s attention span, with the Brazilian international currently on loan at Girona, and his starring performance in La Liga earning him his first few Brazil international caps for their senior squad.
The upcoming summer transfer window is likely to be busy for the Premier League champions, as they not only look to brace themselves for the future but continue to retain the strength of Pep Guardiola’s squad for another season competing on all fronts.
