Joao Cancelo Accuses Pep Guardiola Of Telling ‘LIES’ And Labels Man City As ‘Ungrateful’
Cancelo, who is presently on loan at Barcelona, played for Bayern Munich in Germany during the latter part of the 2022–2023 season.
After reportedly having a falling out with Guardiola over a lack of playing time, the Portugal international was permitted to join the German team.
Cancelo’s response to being left out of the starting eleven in the face of competition from Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis was reportedly something that Guardiola was not pleased with.
In response, the full-back called Man City “ungrateful” and accused Guardiola of uttering “lies” in his comments.
“Lies were told!” stated Cancelo in an A Bola interview. “I’ve always been a good teammate for them; ask Rico (Lewis) or (Nathan) Ake.” That’s the manager’s opinion, but I don’t feel superior to them or inferior to them.
“I choose to stay because it is untrue. Given that I played a major role for Man City throughout my tenure, I believe they were a little unappreciative of me when they made that statement.
“I always gave everything I had to the team and the supporters, and I never failed in that regard. I was once robbed and attacked, and the next day I was playing against Arsenal at the Emirates. You never forget these experiences, as I left my wife and daughter alone at home, terrified.
“Mister Guardiola has far more influence than me when he speaks, and I would much rather keep to myself, so this is the only thing people will remember. I am satisfied with what I accomplished, and I would rather know that I am speaking the truth. I am an honest person; I never tell lies.
Joao Cancelo has accused Pep Guardiola of “telling lies” and labelled Manchester City as “ungrateful”.
When asked about Guardiola’s assertion that he responded poorly to being left out of the team, Cancelo told A’Bola: “Lies were told! I’ve never been a bad team-mate for them and you can ask either (Nathan) Ake or Rico (Lewis). I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that’s the manager’s opinion.
I stayed because it’s not true. I think Man City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that, because I was a very important player in the years I was there. I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans and I always gave everything.”
SPORTMan City’s Walker names two best footballers he’s ever played with
Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has named the two best footballers he has ever played with in his career so far.
Walker has played with several top players including Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, and Gareth Bale at Man City and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively.
Speaking about the best players he’s ever played with, Walker went for former Manchester City star David Silva and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele.
The England international told the Vibe with FIVE podcast: “You pass him a ball, and he makes it look like a good ball – he makes you look better. David was so good. All-rounder, Kevin, but David individually.
“David or, I have said Mousa Dembele countless times. He is a scandal. The only thing Dembele didn’t have was goals and assists, but he had stupid talent- it should not have been allowed.”
