Man City 115 charges: Premier League FFP hearing date revealed – sources

The Premier League will begin hearings for Man City’s alleged profit and sustainability breaches this autumn, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that hearings are set to commence just after the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Citizens are strongly contesting the huge number of charges against them, but well-placed sources have told Football Insider that a final verdict could be determined by the end of next season.

Man City’s FFP case will last ‘years and years and years’ and may ‘fizzle out’ despite 115 charges as football finance expert explains why it could be ‘too risky’ for the Premier League

Manchester City may avoid punishment for their 115 financial fair play charges by tying the Premier League up in a long legal battle, an expert says.

WHAT HAPPENED?

City are to be charged for breaking the Premier League’s financial rules but the club are expected to fight the case. According to Rob Wilson, the European champions will attempt to drag the case out for a long period of time until the charges are eventually dropped.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

After Everton and Nottingham Forest were hit with points deductions earlier this season, there have been calls for City to be hit with a huge punishment due to the large number of breaches they are accused of.

WHAT WILSON SAID

Football finance expert Wilson told Grosvenor Sport: “I think we will get the first sight of Manchester City’s legal proceedings in the autumn, but that will be when the case starts, not when it finishes. Manchester City are richer than the Premier League and therefore will buy the best lawyers and the best accountants to try and get them out of this situation. It will probably last years and years and years if indeed it ever gets resolved.

“Manchester City will wrap the Premier League up in so much litigation that it will just become boring and laborious and I think it will fizzle out. That’s the kind of travesty with it when you take Everton, Forest and potentially Leicester they are single breaches being dealt with quite quickly.

“You need to multiply that by 115. If it takes three months to do one charge, you know, just 115 multiplied by three and you start to get a sense of the scale of what’s going on. The Nottingham Forest verdict report was 25,000 words so 25,000 words multiplied by 115, that’s a lot of writing and a lot of paperwork to get through. I think ultimately that’s why it’s taken so long. It looks like we might never reach a conclusion just by the scale of it.

“It could become financially too risky for the Premier League to continue. If we boil 115 charges down there are probably 30 to 35 that are really serious relating to overspending. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start to resolve some of the other charges that are on the outskirts of the main case.”

WHAT NEXT FOR CITY?

The case against City will likely go ahead later this year. Many have demanded the club be either relegated from the English top-flight or deducted a significant number of points if they are found guilty of breaking the rules.

Joao Cancelo Accuses Pep Guardiola Of Telling ‘LIES’ And Labels Man City As ‘Ungrateful’

Cancelo, who is presently on loan at Barcelona, played for Bayern Munich in Germany during the latter part of the 2022–2023 season.

After reportedly having a falling out with Guardiola over a lack of playing time, the Portugal international was permitted to join the German team.

Cancelo’s response to being left out of the starting eleven in the face of competition from Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis was reportedly something that Guardiola was not pleased with.

In response, the full-back called Man City “ungrateful” and accused Guardiola of uttering “lies” in his comments.

“Lies were told!” stated Cancelo in an A Bola interview. “I’ve always been a good teammate for them; ask Rico (Lewis) or (Nathan) Ake.” That’s the manager’s opinion, but I don’t feel superior to them or inferior to them.

“I choose to stay because it is untrue. Given that I played a major role for Man City throughout my tenure, I believe they were a little unappreciative of me when they made that statement.

“I always gave everything I had to the team and the supporters, and I never failed in that regard. I was once robbed and attacked, and the next day I was playing against Arsenal at the Emirates. You never forget these experiences, as I left my wife and daughter alone at home, terrified.

“Mister Guardiola has far more influence than me when he speaks, and I would much rather keep to myself, so this is the only thing people will remember. I am satisfied with what I accomplished, and I would rather know that I am speaking the truth. I am an honest person; I never tell lies.

Joao Cancelo has accused Pep Guardiola of “telling lies” and labelled Manchester City as “ungrateful”.

When asked about Guardiola’s assertion that he responded poorly to being left out of the team, Cancelo told A’Bola: “Lies were told! I’ve never been a bad team-mate for them and you can ask either (Nathan) Ake or Rico (Lewis). I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that’s the manager’s opinion.

I stayed because it’s not true. I think Man City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that, because I was a very important player in the years I was there. I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans and I always gave everything.”

SPORTMan City’s Walker names two best footballers he’s ever played with

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has named the two best footballers he has ever played with in his career so far.

Walker has played with several top players including Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, and Gareth Bale at Man City and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively.

Speaking about the best players he’s ever played with, Walker went for former Manchester City star David Silva and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele.

The England international told the Vibe with FIVE podcast: “You pass him a ball, and he makes it look like a good ball – he makes you look better. David was so good. All-rounder, Kevin, but David individually.

“David or, I have said Mousa Dembele countless times. He is a scandal. The only thing Dembele didn’t have was goals and assists, but he had stupid talent- it should not have been allowed.”
